I provide hepatology consultations in English for patients living in or visiting Warsaw who need an assessment of liver health. This includes people referred for abnormal liver blood tests, individuals with a new or existing diagnosis of fatty liver disease, patients with viral hepatitis, and anyone with questions about how alcohol use or medications may be affecting their liver. As a specialist in infectious diseases who also practices hepatology, I see liver problems in the wider context of a patient's overall health, including infections, travel history and medication use.

Conditions I address

Common reasons patients book a hepatology consultation with me include:

Elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT) found on routine or pre-employment blood tests

Fatty liver disease, also known as MASLD (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, formerly called NAFLD)

Hepatitis B, including chronic infection, carrier status and monitoring

Hepatitis C, including diagnosis, referral for treatment and follow-up (see hepatitis C treatment in Warsaw)

Alcohol-related liver disease

Drug-induced liver injury, where prescription medication, over-the-counter drugs or supplements may be contributing to abnormal liver results

Each of these is assessed individually. A consultation does not replace emergency care, and patients with severe symptoms should seek urgent medical attention.

Preparing for your appointment

To make the most of the consultation, please bring:

Recent liver blood test results, ideally from the last three months

Any earlier test results or imaging reports (ultrasound, elastography/FibroScan, CT or MRI) relevant to your liver

A list of current medications, over-the-counter drugs and supplements, including doses

Information on alcohol consumption and relevant lifestyle factors

Details of any known viral hepatitis diagnosis or previous vaccination against hepatitis A or B

If you do not yet have blood test results, the relevant laboratory tests can be arranged as part of the visit.

What happens during the consultation

The consultation includes a review of your medical history, current symptoms and existing test results, a physical examination where appropriate, and a discussion of further diagnostics if needed, such as additional blood tests or imaging. Depending on the findings, I explain the likely cause of abnormal results, outline a monitoring or referral plan, and issue any prescriptions or medical certificates required. Consultations are available both in person at the clinic and online.
