<p>I am Karolina Pyziak-Kowalska, MD, PhD, a specialist in infectious diseases who also practises hepatology and travel medicine in Warsaw. I have worked with patients with infectious diseases for more than 20 years, and since 2023 I have headed a branch of the Polish National Network of Travel Medicine Centres. My practice serves both Polish-speaking and English-speaking patients, including expatriates, diplomats, international students, and travellers based in or passing through Warsaw.</p> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <p>I hold a medical degree and a PhD, and I am a board-certified specialist in infectious diseases. I am a member of the Polish Society of Maritime, Tropical and Travel Medicine, and my clinic holds Certified Travel Medicine Centre status, with a COMP certificate valid to 2028. As head of a branch within the Polish National Network of Travel Medicine Centres, I follow the network's standards for pre-travel consultations and vaccination practice.</p> <h2>Scope of practice</h2> <p>My clinical practice covers three related areas:</p> <ul> <li><a href="/en/infectious-disease-doctor-warsaw">Infectious diseases</a> in adults and, from age 6, in children</li> <li><a href="/en/hepatologist-warsaw">Hepatology</a>, including chronic viral hepatitis B and C</li> <li><a href="/en/travel-medicine-warsaw">Travel medicine</a>, covering pre-travel consultations, vaccination planning, and assessment after return from travel</li> </ul> <p>A first consultation generally includes a review of your medical and travel history, together with any examination, testing, or vaccination that is relevant to your situation. Children can be vaccinated at any age; infectious-disease and hepatology consultations for children are available from age 6, and younger children are referred to a paediatric infectious disease specialist. Fever after returning from a tropical destination is a condition I see in my infectious disease practice, and it requires urgent medical assessment.</p> <h2>Travel medicine and vaccinations</h2> <p>My clinic is an authorised yellow fever vaccination point. I issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, the ICVP, sometimes called the yellow book, and vaccinations are given on site during the same visit, after medical qualification. For planning purposes, the World Health Organization recommends a pre-travel consultation four to eight weeks before departure, and the CDC recommends at least a month; I work with whatever timeframe a patient has available.</p> <h2>Research</h2> <p>My research has focused on HIV and HCV testing. I am first author of peer-reviewed studies in this area, most recently published in PLOS ONE in 2026.</p> <h2>Consultations in English</h2> <p>I consult in English, in person and online, for English-speaking patients living in or visiting Warsaw. A Polish PESEL number is not required for registration, a passport or residence card is sufficient. Prescriptions and medical certificates are issued during the visit, so that patients travelling on or leaving Warsaw shortly after a consultation do not need a separate visit to collect paperwork.</p> <h2>Location</h2> <p>The clinic, ZnajomaKlinika, is located at ul. Stefana Żeromskiego 55/67, 01-882 Warsaw, in the Bielany district near Żoliborz.
